Modularity is the critical success factor
Increasing competition and advancing technological possibilities create several new challenges. The control of the high complexity of processes and application systems and the ability of flexible adjustment while reducing the design and development time, are the vital expectations to the design of organizational structures and applications systems.
Modern, modular approaches of process and application system design can facilitate companies to meet these vital demands and additionally reduce costs, in comparison to a complete redesign, by reusing existing structural and application system elements.
Mission
The paradigm for the research group "Component and Systems Engineering" are the mature (traditional) engineering disciplines, which have already completed the transformation from an individual production, typical for craft producers, to an efficient and modular production. The research group transfers these concepts to the design and development of organisational structures and application systems.
Core Competencies
The research group is engaged in research and practical implementation of modular design of organisational structures in the area of Service Science, Engineering, and Management. Additionally, the research group focuses on concepts of component-oriented application development and service-oriented architectures, which allow the modular composition of application systems. By this means, the interdisciplinary research field of the research group at the intersection of business administration and informatics is defined. The tasks of the research group include the following topics:
- Development of innovative methods and tools
- Implementation of new design principles und technologies
- Arrangement of symposia and workshops
- Conduction of courses
- Strategic consulting and realization of projects
- Training / further education as well as lectures
Areas of research
The examined areas of research include the construction of methods as well as their applicance. The following research map shows the current research topics of the research group:
